Our family was enthusiastic about attending the first preschool Lego Club, hosted by Bricks 4 Kidz at the Potomac branch library in Indian Head. Each child received their own bin of Duplo blocks, along with a character figure and clearly printed, large, colorful building instructions. This week the Lego Club constructed helicopters while working on color recognition and the letter “H.” Afterwards, children had the opportunity to build freely with Duplo blocks as well as extra large foam Lego blocks. We look forward to attending again next week, where Lego Club will feather an alligator theme!

Earl Keeler and his wife Jacquie just established their Southern Maryland franchise of Bricks 4 Kidz earlier this year. Based in Bryans Road, MD, Earl and Jacquie are a mobile business, and therefore able to present programs at area libraries, churches, and schools. They are also available for Lego birthday parties, camps, and field trips. Most children are already familiar with Lego bricks, and the Bricks 4 Kidz program allows children to foster social skills while at the same time improving critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The Bricks 4 Kidz program is dynamic in that they offer curriculum for preschool through school aged children, beginning with simple Duplo projects and graduating to builds incorporating electrical components and fully moving parts. The program is both entertaining and educational,  providing  “an extraordinary atmosphere for students to build unique creations, play games, and have loads of fun using LEGO® Bricks. The activities are designed to trigger young children’s lively imaginations and build their self-confidence.”Bricks 4 kids2

We look forward to attending many more public Bricks 4 Kidz Lego Club events in the near future! We enjoyed working on our pre-designed build, as well as engaging with other families and designing structures together, from building tall, tall castles to knocking them down! Look for Bricks 4 Kidz at Waldorf West library in the coming months, and contact Earl to arrange your own Lego Club for your day care, homeschool or after-school group, or next party!
