You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown is a Hit at Imagination Stage

When we heard about the new musical, “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” happening at Imagination Stage, we jumped at the chance to be one of the first to see the show! We had the pleasure of attending the play over the weekend and of course, loved every bit of it. This was our first time to Imagination Stage and my little one was impressed as soon as we entered the building. She was excited about our Mommy and Daughter date, especially because she loves dressing up and going to the theatre. As you all know, the beloved Snoopy and the Gang have been around for years making us laugh with their witty jokes and interesting adventures. Now it was time to see the characters bring the fun to the stage like we had never seen. Based on the Comic Strip “Peanuts,” this off-Broadway musical is sure to touch the hearts of both young and old.

Let’s talk about the highlights of the show (don’t worry, there are NO spoiler alerts here):

1.  Lucy and Schroder were the real standouts of the performance. We loved how Lucy drew the audience in and captured her infatuation to Schroder as it came to life on stage. A girl can dream even if the guy doesn’t really notice her right (sigh)?

2. What’s not to love about Snoopy? We know Charlie Brown catches a lot of flack but this time Snoopy felt the pain. Wanting more attention from the gang, he shared his frustration in a comical way and kept us cracking up. My daughter thought he was so hilarious.

3. Get ready to nod your head and tap your feet to the music. The singing in this play is excellent! The musical director played each song perfectly and at the right time keeping the audience engaged during each scene. Just imagine your kid smiling and tapping on your shoulders every couple of minutes.

The production is good for all ages, however there were some instances where we felt that they went too far with the language. After the show, there was a bonus treat for us where we had cupcakes, made crafts and more. This show is a definite must do for your summer arts and theatre productions. Not sure how they did it, but these 5 actors took the stage for an hour and a half and put their beautiful voices and abilities in a powerhouse children’s performance. I instantly went back to my childhood and for a little while, we shared moments that gave my daughter and I an experience we’ll never forget.
