Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show in Baltimore

Five Things You Must Do at Maryland Fleet Week

Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show festivities are being held October 10-17th at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, at Fort McHenry and in Baltimore County at Martin State Airport. The event celebrates the rich naval traditions of the Chesapeake Bay and the contributions of Marylanders to the defense of the nation. With interactive activities, Naval vessels on deck, air shows, schooner races, educational outreach programs, live music and Chesapeake inspired food, it’ll be something for the whole family to enjoy. I’m excited about this event because it’s an extension of my recent trip to the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA. While exploring the museum, I learned a lot about the past, present and future of the men and women who serve, the evolution of technology and the victories won. While I know there will  be a lot of activities happening at the event, I’ve gathered up a list of things to put on your checklist.

1

Meet and Greet with Pilots
Sailors will be flooding the harbor for selfies, autographs and taking questions of course!

2

Watch the Blue Angels Take Flight
Nearly two dozen aviators will fly high in the sky above Ft. McHenry and Baltimore’s Harbor on Oct 15 and Oct 16. In addition, the Blue Angels will perform at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Air Expo on October 29 and 30.

3

Tour All Ships
There will be over a dozen US and Canadian vessels docked in the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Locust Point. Use the map for exact ship locations.

4

Witness the Commissioning of the USS ZUMWALT
Commissioning will take place on October 15. Named for Admiral Elmo “Bud” Zumwalt Jr., the USS ZUMWALT, DDG1000, is the most powerful, technologically-advanced United States destroyer in our history.  This ship is the first of its class and introduces major innovation in ship design, a stealth profile, tumblehome hull, and long-range weaponry.

5

Visit the Festival
Beyond the vessels is a family friendly festival filled with maritime activities, live music, entertainment and food!

Going to the show? What are you looking forward to seeing?
