Review: Kids Day Out at Harmony Hall Regional Center

My daughter and I had the pleasure of attending the The Fabulous Chinese Acrobats at Harmony Hall Regional Center, the latest in their monthly Kids Day Out series. This is the third performance of the series that we have attended, and was by far our favorite!
The show consisted of 4 Chinese acrobats and an emcee. The emcee taught the audience a few phrases in Chinese, shared some cultural tidbits and talked to us about the rigorous (8 hours a day for 10+ years!) training program that these young adults have endured. Traditional Chinese and modern music accompanied the performance.
Children and adults alike were mesmerized by the acts of contortion, spinning tables on feet, hula hooping a gazillion hoops at once, juggling and catching heavy clay pots, and incredible feats of strength and balance. As is typical of the Kids Day Out performances, some young audience members were invited on stage to demonstrate their own hula hooping skills!
The show lasted about 45 minutes, which was just perfect for the mostly pre-school/kindergarten-aged crowd. Afterwards we enjoyed the playground and picnicked at Fort Washington Park, just a 7 minute drive from Harmony Hall with free admission on weekdays. It was the perfect way to expel some energy after seeing the show, plus my daughter was eager to try out some of the new acrobatic skills she had seen!
Location: Harmony Hall is just off of 210 S in Fort Washington, MD.
Venue: Harmony Hall Regional Center is easy to find and has ample free parking. The Kids Day Out performances take place in a small family theater, where even those sitting in the back have a spectacular view.
Cost: Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the box office or over the phone. Shows do sell out so I suggest calling early to reserve your tickets.
Will we go back: Absolutely! The variety of performances in the series give my daughter a broad introduction to many different theater arts. It will be a fun break, especially during the hot summer months.

- Ssuuna, a dancer, drummer, singer, songwriter, storyteller from Uganda. Wednesday June 24, 10:30am
- Christylez Bacon, performing a multi-instrumental exploration of beat box, rap, go-go, classical music and beyond. Wednesday July 1, 10:30am
