This new African American children’s picture book by Davina Hamilton is one that young readers will enjoy. Riley Can Be Anything is filled with upbeat rhythmic patterns and rhyming words making it easy and fun to read aloud. Each page has unique and colorful illustrations that almost jump out at each turn.

What’s It All About
Riley loves his curious big cousin Joe! Joe’s inquisitive nature leads him to ask Young Riley a big and scary question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Unsure about it, Joe reminds him of the amazing accomplishments done by their own family members and this gets Riley excited. They journey down the family line like a photo album reliving each ones greatness! In these moments Riley realizes that there are an abundance of careers that would be perfect for him, but which will he choose? When he’s asked by his teacher about his big plans, Riley knows just what to say.

Overall our kids loved the book and was very interested in learning more about all the careers Riley and Joe discussed (The kids talked so much that it took longer than expected to finish).
