Unique Summer Camps in Maryland for Young Children

Not Just a Day Camp
Unique Summer Camps You and Your Children Will Love

MWT Contributor: Piper

I’ve spent what seems like hours searching  for fun, engaging summer camps that will provide my daughter with more than some sugary drinks and the same old boring crafts. I have come across some truly exceptional camps and I cannot wait to share them with you! I couldn’t help but highlight a few across the Wilson Bridge that are definitely worth the drive. Do not hesitate to register as camps are already filling up quickly!

  1. Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (St. Leonard, MD): History and Archaeology Camps
With camps for kindergarteners to 8th graders, your children can learn native skills, discover river life, or spend a week with an archaeologist!
  2. Calvert Nature Society (throughout Calvert County, MD): Nature camps
The Calvert County naturalists are phenomenal and your children will have a blast doing nature photography, paddling, or learning about local creatures. I especially love the Nature Girls camp where they will wade through the wetlands, build forts and learn means of survival, like cooking over a fire. Camps are offered for pre-k through 12th grade.
  3. Annmarie Garden & Art Center (Solomons, MD): Camps where art and nature meet
Annmarie offers an exciting selection of full and half day camps for ages 4 to 18 taught by professional educators and working artists. These camps will encourage your children to explore their creativity, discover the natural world, and serve their community.
  4. Linden Farm (La PLata, MD): Summer Riding camp
Daily camp includes horse care, riding instruction, trail rides and games, and more! Each student will be assigned a horse for the week and each session will be followed by an in-house horse show so your children can demonstrate their new skills.
  5. Arts on the Horizon (Alexandria, VA): Theater camp for young children
Best suited for ages 3-6, Arts on the Horizon offers creative drama and beginning acting camps, with themes like Under the Sea and Transportation Exploration. These half-day camps will encourage your children to sing, dance and be silly, while learning to work together to tell a story.
  6. UpCycle Creative Reuse Center (Alexandria, VA): Art in all forms
These half-day camps for ages 3-14 will introduce your children to bubble art, print making, sewing, fiber art and mixed media. Not just your ordinary arts and crafts, your children will be making story quilts and dyeing yarn—creating true masterpieces!

Which camps are you and your children excited about this summer? We’d love to hear about the unique camps you have found in the area. Leave a comment to let us know!
