 Looking for fun this Labor Day Weekend? With the many events happening in the DMV, it’s a great time to get up, get out and do something. Give the chores a rest for a least one day this weekend and pick one event or activity to do with the kids.

 Friday, August 29

Meet the dairy cow at Oxon Hill Farm! Come and learn about cows, agriculture, and farm products by helping with the milking of the cow.

Let the children play in the Kids’ Zone while parents to enjoy the concert while keeping an eye on the little ones at the weekly concert series at La Plata Town Hall.

Go to Crisfield for the National Hard Crab Derby is an annual Labor Day weekend event. The unique crab themed festival features crab races, crab cooking and picking contests, carnival rides, arts and crafts, vendors, live entertainment, beauty pageants, a parade, fireworks and more.

Saturday, August 30

Visit the PBS Explorer zone where kids can meet characters from The Cat in the Hat, Curious George, Peg + Cat and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood; spin the PBS KIDS Word Wheel; get a whiff of Sid the Science Kid’s Stinky Smelling Challenge or create-your-own puppet show stage skit at the National Book Festival.

Go back in time at the Maryland Renaissance Festival! You can joust, kids can ride horse, see great shows and of course eat gigantic turkey legs!!

 Sunday, August 31

Get the pillowcases and head over to the Bowie Baysox’s game to be a part of the first ever Helicopter Candy Drop with over 200 pounds of candy!

Come immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the 1812 era as Charles County commemorates the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 at Serenity Farm.  Enjoy hayrides, authentic oxen cart rides, a petting zoo, amusements, and various artisans, crafters, local businesses, and food vendors
