The museum is open free to the public from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. There are always docents in every gallery, and frequently local performers will entertain. All performances are either free or on a donation basis, and are family friendly.

National Children’s Museum Free Family Night – FREE!

Enjoy free admission to the museum for the whole family, as well as hands-on activities and interactive programming in the NCM Theater and exhibit areas. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the NCM box office beginning at 5pm on the day of the event.

From the leader in anime Katsuhiro Otomo, “Steamboy” is the most expensive Japanese anime film production ever. Go on an epic adventure with inventor prodigy Ray Steam in Victorian England as he realizes his dream to build a steam castle, overcome obstacles, fighting evil, and saving London along the way. An open discussion about anime will follow the screening of “Steamboy,” led by Montpelier instructors George Kochell and Joe Holliman.

National Museum of African Art (NMAfA) CABA event

Africa Access and the Outreach Council of the African Studies Association give annual awards for the best children’s and young adult books on Africa published in the U.S.  The awards celebrate outstanding K-12 books on Africa published in the U.S. The awards are designed to encourage the publication of accurate, balanced children’s materials on Africa, to recognize literary excellence and to acknowledge the research achievements of outstanding authors and illustrators.
