The Kids Need Glasses and I Don’t Have Enough Coverage
I Didn’t Expect To Buy My Daughter Glasses This Year
We recently discovered that our daughter was having a little trouble with her vision. Most words she could see but other times I had to look twice myself! Off to the eye doctor we went. Upon the completion of her exam, it was determined that glasses were needed and our search for the right pair was on. Since the journey of eyewear for her was new, we decided to let her pick any pair she wanted; and well, she picked two! As a glasses wearer myself, I could see the cost creeping up. Because she was feeling a bit more comfortable about the wearing glasses, I just smiled and watched her try on 10-12 pair.
See, we have health insurance, but what I didn’t expect is to have to pay for additional vision coverage for the kids. That means whatever the basic plan is, it’s what we get. Let me tell you, it is the bare minimum. I didn’t really see it as a problem at first, since I’m the only one that has vision problems. As we looked around, I imagined the cashier entering in all of our upgrades: polycarbonate, tinted lenses, scratch-resistant, ultraviolet protection and more (you know, like all the stuff I have for my glasses). I wasn’t sure that all of these “extras” were going to be required, but you never know. There are so many options these days and we wanted ensure they would weather the storm of playing, dancing and soccer. When we finally finished up, the total was about $180 for one pair! Did I mention she chose two (mom faint)? And this was WITH health insurance! BOOOOOO! I knew at that moment we were going to have to make some changes in the upcoming months.
I was introduced to Healthplan USA not long ago, as a means to help my family with our health care needs. It is NOT health insurance but a discounted card program that can reduce your medical expenses significantly. See in my case, we could have cut our bill up to 60%. Now let all the parents say YES! This time I took a loss on my opportunity to save but trust me, it will not happen again. I mean, that could have been a nice chunk of change in my pocket. Not to worry, I still have to get my glasses and contacts so I’m looking forward to sharing my experience using my new HealthPlan USA benefits.
Let me share some of the other benefits that may cause you to do a double take:
- Virtual Doctor Visits using Telehealth
- Dental Discounts powered Aetna Dental Access
- Save 10-85% on most prescriptions
- Unlimited access to a professional health care advocate
Okay guys, head on over the Healthplan USA site and see what the hype is all about.
Disclosure: “I am in partnership with HealthPlan USA and they have provided me with compensation for this campaign. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.”
I’m usually wary of monthly fees because you look up and you’ve already spent $180, and you haven’t even needed the program yet. Still, it’s worth looking into because it’s always better to be safe rather than sorry regarding medical coverage.
This sounds like a great plan to supplement existing coverage! I am always looking for discounts and medical care these days whewwww talk about expensive. Thanks!
Yikes! We wear glasses in our family and thankfully my insurance has been good, but I do have to come out of pocket for contacts.
We do to! The good thing about the discount card is that you can use it on other health services so that’s a plus.
Thank you for sharing this valuable resource. These insurance companies make everything complicated. Glad your baby got what she needed.
I know!! Another mom talked about how much simpler the Canadian Health Care coverage and I’m a little jealous.
I can relate to the cost of glasses. My son started wearing glasses this year. ? I think he fell in love with the most expensive pair in the store. Ummm no! A discount plan is a big help.
I am glad you were able to get a plan that can help you get your daughter glasses. There should never be an instant when any parent has to say they don’t have enough coverage to get something so important.
Thank God for the Health Plan Card, is this nationwide? Because if so I definitely need to look into it! Having children and the extra cost with health care is unreal!
Yes, yes, yes!! You can use the card nationwide and there you can give them a call anytime for assistance.
Kids are so adorable, they never know how much anything costs. Sometimes I envy their innocence. It’s good to know that you found a health care program that works and helps to reduce cost. Sounds good, will check them out.
Please do!!
I guess you guys in the USA has different services then Canada when it comes to children care my nephew is 5 and he get free glasses coverage but paying insurance.
I wish!! Nope, you can get an exam with any insurance but when it comes to the purchase of the actual glasses or contacts, you’ll have to pay extra.
I had no idea about the difference. This is great to know since I’m expecting.
Exactly!! Use these benefits!
I have to go get my new glasses right now! I know that I’ll be getting more soon for the boys since I haven’t seen the oldest one wearing his for a while, and I just saw the youngest ones glasses on the floor waiting to get stepped on. We NEED these discounts!
Let me tell you, I can’t get enough when it comes to the discounts. Vision and Dental are the ones that require more of a supplement.
HealthPlan USA sounds great for families who do not have insurance or insurance lacks coverage for certain needs. I am happy it was able to help your family.
Yes! I’m looking forward to learning about the other savings for our healthcare.
